There are many reasons why a website would be slow in this day and age, but none of them matter to users. After all, 40% of internet users report leaving a website if it takes longer than 3 seconds for the page to load.

As of July 2018, mobile speed is now one of Google’s search ranking factors. Everybody wants to promote a faster internet for their users.

Here are three tips to help improve your website’s speed:

1. Check your website’s page speed

Use Google’s PageSpeed Insights to see how fast your website is. In addition to letting you know how fast or slow your website is, this tool gives actionable tips to improve your page speed.

2. Remove any extra media

Make sure you’re not hosting too many images or videos on your website. It’s alright if there’s white space on your webpage; people like that. If a video is hosted directly on your website, upload it to YouTube or another service and embed it instead.

3. Compress your images

Large images can take their toll on your website’s speed. Try to keep all images you upload under 500 kilobytes. Use a compression tool like Optimizilla to compress your images. If you can use image editing software like Photoshop or Lightroom, that would be more ideal.
